Obituaries


•  Charles W. (Billy) Blalock, 67, of Glasscock County, died March 16, 2007 at Midland Memorial Hospital and was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Midland. He was born Oct. 2, 1939 to Lois Brunson Blalock and Charles Wesley Blalock. The family lived on a ranch in Glasscock County where he graduated from high school in 1957 and went on to manage the family ranch, which he loved. On April 1, 1967, he married Glenda (Doc) Rainwater, and they shared their lives for the next 40 years.

 His parents and a brother, Bobby Blalock, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Doc; daughter Susan Bollman and husband Roger, of Ruidoso, N.M.; son Charles and wife Tiffany Blalock and grandchildren Shayla and Charles Wesley Blalock. Other close family members include his loving sister-in-law Maritha; two nephews, Robert Bradford and David Austin Blalock.

 

•  Gilbert Joseph Strube, 92, of Wall, died March 24, 2007 and was buried at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall.  He was born Jan. 15, 1915 in Olfen, Texas, to A. W. Strube and Mathilda Hoelscher Strube.  He farmed with his family in Wall and served in the Army during World War II.  After the war, Gilbert and his brother Otto owned and operated gins in Vancourt and Wall.

                Gilbert married Celestene “Sally” Mees on Feb. 11, 1947, and they settled in the Wall community where they farmed.  He was involved in his farm’s activities until his death, and was always a very active member of both his community and church.

                He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Celestene; a daughter, Ann Strube Fuchs; brothers, Otto, A.W.Jr., and Martin Strube; sisters, Olivia Schwertner, Alice Wild and Valeria Wilde. Survivors include sons, Jimmy Strube and wife, Carolyn, of St. Lawrence, Thomas Strube and wife, Ruth, of Stiles, and Kenneth Strube and wife, Connie, of San Angelo; daughters Theresa Eoff and husband, Zane, of Garden City, Clair Mikeska and husband, Scott, of San Angelo, and Laura Strube of Ballinger; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildr
