Briefly
• The GCISD School Board cancelled its April 9 meeting. At printing time April 10, the GC News had no word of when the board will next meet, but that meeting will be reported in the May issue.
• The county’s Senior Citizens will meet April 17 at 6 p.m. and are going to Halfmann’s (Dutch treat) for burgers. May 1 is potluck.
• A “Meet the Bride” shower for Donna Karlin, bride-elect of Donny Cypert, will be held May 5 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ. If you are interested in being a hostess or a hostess couple, call Vickie McCombs 354-2492 or 270-4834 (cell).
• The next school board election will be in November, according to Kathy Wheat. Due to new state rules, school elections must be held with county or city municipality elections.
• The Glasscock Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for cost-share in the state brush control program. Landowners can contact the district at 325/481-0335 for a copy of the application. Funds will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis for mechanical and/or chemical application.

• A member of Congressman Mike Conaway's staff will be in Garden City April 24 from 2:30 – 4 p.m. at the community center to visit with constituents, allowing you to share concerns, to request help on federal issues or to ask questions.
• Chelsea Schwartz, a senior broadcasting student at West Texas A & M University, was recently inducted into the National Broadcasting Society honor society, Alpha Epsilon Rho, at the NBS National Convention in Chicago. She and two fellow students were awarded first place for their music video "Some Gave All.” Schwartz is a 2003 graduate of Garden City High School and a candidate for May graduation from WT.
