Obituaries


                • Allie B. Cook, 88, of Garden City died Oct. 11 in Henderson and was buried Oct. 15 at the Garden City Cemetery.  He was born Feb. 19, 1917 in Garden City.  He was farmer and rancher and enjoyed horse racing, fishing and work.  He especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

                Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James N. and Charlotte Cook of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Danny Coats of Henderson; a sister, Marjorie Klein of Fredericksburg; two grandsons, James N. Cook, Jr. of Round Rock and Clay Coats of Longview; a granddaughter, Kristi Evans of Conroe; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Cook of Garden City.

                He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren, John Cook and Mary Cook.

 

•  Velma Zora Christie Sherrod, 85, died Oct. 27 at her home near Garden City. She was born Aug. 21, 1920 in Indian Gap to Sampson Christie and Gladys Matilda Howington Christie. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1938 and went to post-graduate school in Pharr.  She married Randell Louie Sherrod in 1941.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Velma Lee and husband Tom Blakeney of Amarillo; two sons, Jimmy Randell Sherrod of Garden City and John Edward Sherrod of Big Spring; two sisters, Virginia Christie Hartley of Garden City, and Fred Christie Young of Hoonah, Alaska; a brother, Norman Christie of Del Rio, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Warren Christie.
