In The Spotlight
• Noemi Guerrero is the GCHS valedictorian for 2004; Jessica Hoch is the salutatorian. Noemi is the daughter of Sergio and Christina Guerrero; Jessica is the daughter of Michael and Melissa Hoch.
• Taylor Niehues placed sixth in mathematics at the state University Interscholastic League Academic Meet. The team of Niehues, Colton Schwartz, Noemi Guerrero and Tyler Bednar placed fifth overall and was coached by Jerry Cannon and Shea Gartman. In accounting, Jessica Hoch and Leslie Jansa placed seventh, and the team consisting of Hoch, Jansa, Amanda Hirt, and Anna Flores placed third and was coached by Reta Bell.
• Allison Jansa qualified for the state track meet after placing second in both the 1600 meters and 3200 meters at the regional track meet in Levelland. (See item, pg. 4.) She is the daughter of Alan and Lisa Jansa.
• Angela Schraeder, a member of the Howard College Lady Hawks softball team, has been awarded the 2003–2004 Hawk Pride award for “inspiring others and contributing to the team’s success.” The team won Region V of the NJCAA and will compete in the national tournament in Clermont, FL. Schraeder, a 2003 graduate of GCHS, is the daughter of Dennis and Debbie Schraeder.
• The Glasscock County 4-H team, consisting of 33 youth and 10 adults, placed first in the number of laps walked/run at the Tenth Annual Howard-Glasscock Relay for Life in Big Spring. They raised $1,858 and placed second in the large teams category. Overall, the event raised $201,172 for the American Cancer Society.
• Garden City Elementary School received a plaque at the Howard-Glasscock Relay for Life for raising the most money in Links for a Cure. They sold 15,000 links for a total of $1,500.
